Ayodhya, Dec. 16 -- Former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) lawmaker Ram Vilas Vedanti, who also played a key role in the Ram Janmabhoomi movement, died in a hospital in Madhya Pradesh's Rewa on Monday. He was 67. According to people familiar with the details, Vedanti's health suddenly deteriorated on Wednesday while he was on a visit to Rewa for a religious discourse. He was immediately admitted to Superspecialty Hospital in Rewa and passed away during treatment. Superspecialty Hospital superintendent Akshay Srivastava said: "When he was admitted, he had blood poisoning infection, which had spread significantly. Vedanti suffered a heart attack on Sunday night. He passed away this morning." Vedanti was the executive president of the "Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Nyas" and had been elected to the Lok Sabha from Machhalishahr and Pratapgarh constituencies in 1996 and 1998. He was also among the accused in the Babri Masjid demolition case. In 2020, he was among all the 32 accused who were acquitted by a special CBI court. Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath has condoled the MP's demise.
