Chandigarh, Dec. 10 -- A fast-track POCSO court on Tuesday sentenced a 32-year-old Punjab Police constable to three years in jail for molesting his 16-year-old neighbour in 2023. The constable was found guilty under Section 8 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and Section 341 (wrongful restraint) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) on Monday. The court awarded him three-year jail and a Rs.10,000 fine under Section 8 of the POCSO Act and one-month jail under Section 341 of the IPC. The case originated from a complaint received by the local police on July 17, 2023, via the District Child Protection Unit. The complaint stated that in June 2023, the minor girl, a resident of Chandigarh, had gone to the accused's house in her neighbourhood on her grandmother's request to inquire about food. The constable, who was consuming alcohol, pushed the girl against a wall and attempted to force himself on her. But she managed to push him away and escape to safety. The constable was subsequently booked under Section 354-A (1) (i) of the IPC, and Sections 8 and 10 of the POCSO Act at the Sector 26 police station on August 11, 2023.HTC...
