Chandigarh, Nov. 21 -- Trident Group will invest Rs.2,000 crore in Punjab to modernise and expand its manufacturing units and set up a corporate office, cabinet minister Sanjeev Arora said on Thursday. Addressing a press conference here, Arora said Trident will invest Rs.1,500 crore to expand terry towel production and modernise paper manufacturing in Barnala district, and invest the remaining Rs.500 crore in Mohali district for setting up a corporate office and a capacity building centre. Trident Group chairman and Aam Aadmi Party Rajya Sabha member Rajinder Gupta, who was also present, said that the company will expand its yarn business and augment the existing textile capabilities to cater to increasing domestic and export demand. He was elected unopposed to the upper house from Punjab as a candidate of the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). "The modernisation of paper manufacturing is being done by upgrading technology and infrastructure to ensure eco-friendly and efficient production processes," Rajinder Gupta said.
