India, Jan. 4 -- A healthy uterine lining, known as endometrium, plays a crucial role in embryo implantation and successful pregnancy. In some women undergoing fertility treatment, the endometrium remains thin despite standard hormonal therapy, which can lower the chances of conception. For such patients, platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy is an emerging option. PRP is prepared from a small sample of the woman's own blood. This blood is processed in a centrifuge to concentrate platelets, which are rich in natural growth factors. These growth factors are known to have regenerative properties and help in endometrial healing. The prepared PRP is gently instilled into the uterine cavity either hysteroscopically or under ultrasound guidance. PRP therapy is quite simple, cost-effective and safe treatment . As it is prepared from patient's own blood, side effects and allergic reactions are minimal. Various studies and clinical trials have suggested that PRP may help increase endometrial thickness and improve pregnancy outcomes in selected women with refractory thin endometrium. However, as results vary, PRP is not a guaranteed treatment. It should be offered only after proper evaluation and counselling, as a part of evidence-based fertility care.
