pre-election bash held in panchkula
Panchkula, Aug. 28 -- With just days remaining before the Panjab University (PU) student elections, several student parties are actively organising events to connect with the students, particularly new admissions.
On Tuesday, the SOI party from DAV College, Sector 10, hosted a gathering at a bar in Sector 5, Panchkula. This year's elections, scheduled for September 3, will see a notable alliance between SOI, HIMSU, and INSO contesting together for the student polls.
Harmehak Singh Cheema, a presidential candidate from the SOI party stated that the event was specifically arranged for freshers in Panchkula and received a positive response. He denied that any liquor was served, describing the event as a simple get-together.
ACP (law and order) Surender Singh said that due to the large gathering, the parking area outside the bar was nearly full. "The police deployed a PCR van to manage law and order and set up a checkpoint outside the parking area," he added.
Singh said that strict instructions were issued to club and bar owners regarding compliance with regulations. He warned that any violation of the Excise Act or other laws could lead to police action.
A security guard at one of the clubs said that there was a massive crowd during the student gathering. While many managed to enter the bar, a large number of students had to wait outside due to limited space.
Those who could not get in were offered food and beverages at an adjacent club. The guard also confirmed that entries were granted only after checking valid student ID cards....
