Mohali, Dec. 31 -- The Kurali city police have registered a murder case after a medical report confirmed that a man who died during treatment had been poisoned. The deceased has been identified as Karamjit Singh, a resident of Majat, who passed away on April 27. According to police, the incident occurred on April 17, when Paramjit Singh, a resident of Kurali, and an unidentified accomplice allegedly administered liquor to Karamjit. Shortly after consuming the drink, Karamjit fell ill and was hospitalised. He succumbed ten days later. Initially, police initiated proceedings under Section 174 of the CrPC (now BNSS). However, upon receiving the chemical examiner's report confirming the presence of poison, an inquiry was conducted. Consequently, an FIR was registered on December 29 under Sections 103 (murder) and 3(5) (joint liability) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at the Kurali city police station. DSP Harsimrat Singh said that the murder charge was added following the medical findings. "We have registered the FIR after the medical examination confirmed poisoning.
