Pilot killed, tourist injured in Bir-Billing paragliding mishap
Dharamshala, Dec. 29 -- A paragliding pilot was killed and a tourist injured after their tandem paraglider crashed shortly after taking off from Billing paragliding site in Kangra district.
The incident occurred at the internationally renowned Bir-Billing paragliding site on Friday evening. Officials said that the preliminary inquiry suggests that the fight could not properly take-off due to improper thermals. During the crash, the deceased pilot, identified as Mohan Singh, a resident of Barot in Mandi district, sustained head injuries and the tourist who hailed from Kolkata suffered minor injuries.
Local residents and rescue teams rushed to the spot and shifted both the pilot and the tourist to a hospital. However, the pilot succumbed to injuries while he was being taken to the hospital. Baijnath SDM Sankalp Gautam said, "We are probing the incident and its causes. We will also convene a meeting of the sub-divisional regulatory committee to prepare a fact-finding report on the causes of such incidents in Bir-Billing, which will be sent to the district administration."...
