Phase-11 teen dies after blows by two friends, culpable homicide probe begins
Mohali, April 2 -- A 19-year-old youth died under suspicious circumstances after being beaten up by his two friends in Amb Colony, Phase 11.
According to the brother of the victim, Banti, one of the accused, identified as Sonu, arrived home with Banti, who was dazed and limping.
Sonu claimed that Banti had consumed "something intoxicating" and needed medicine. He then left. A short while later, Banti collapsed and was rushed to a local hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Police said CCTV footage revealed what transpired earlier. Sonu and another youth were seeing landing blows on Banti, who collapsed to the ground. As Banti struggled to regain balance, they dragged him towards his house, before abandoning him and fleeing.
Following the family's complaint and the video evidence, the Phase 11 police booked Sonu and his unidentified accomplice under Section 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Police officials said initially proceedings under Section 194 BNS (affray) were initiated. But after reviewing the footage and statements, the case was converted accordingly. A probe is underway to identify the second youth seen in the video and determine the exact cause of death. The investigation is ongoing....
