Chandigarh, Jan. 31 -- After performing its first renal denervation (RDN) procedure on a patient suffering from uncontrolled high blood pressure (BP), the advanced cardiac centre at the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) is now planning to carry out anevidence-based study on the effectiveness of this procedure. RDN therapy is used to control high-blood pressure among patients whose primary hypertension remains out of control despite taking multiple medications. According to PGI officials, the study they are planning to conduct would be significant as not much data has been produced in India. The 30-to-40 minute procedure costs around Rs.5 lakh at PGI. Since not many studies have been conducted on the procedure in India, Dr Mehrotra said they will connect with other tertiary care hospitals to study the effectiveness of this therapy to produce relevant data....
