PGI negligence claims girl's life
India, April 19 -- Anupama Sarkar, 16, lost her life to medical negligence at Advanced Trauma Centre of the Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) on July 24, 2012. Her parents, Amit Sarkar and Konika Sarkar, filed a case in the State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission and PGIMER lost the legal battle. On July 17, 2012, their only daughter, Anupama, was returning home from school in a Chandigarh Transport Undertaking (CTU) bus when her left leg got crushed under the bus. Police rushed her to PGIMER but she died a week later due to gangrene and septicaemia. On April 1, 2013, the commission held PGIMER and the CTU authorities guilty and directed them to compensate the family with Rs.7 lakh....
