Petrol bomb lobbed at Cong sarpanch's house
Amritsar, May 11 -- Unidentified individuals lobbed a petrol bomb at the house of Congress sarpanch Nishan Singh at Sudhar village near Ramdas town on Saturday night.
According to information, a loud explosion was heard outside the house, following which family members and nearby residents rushed out.
The bomb led to a small fire near the main gate of the house, which was promptly extinguished by residents.
Upon receiving information, police reached the spot, inspected the scene and began an investigation. In his police complaint, the sarpanch said he had been receiving extortion threats over phone for the past two days.
The callers, claiming to be gangsters, had demanded Rs.50 lakh and issued death threats if the money was not paid.
Police have collected CCTV footage from nearby cameras to identify the attackers.
Amritsar senior superintendent of police (SSP) Suhail Mir said the matter was being probed considering all aspects.
A case has been registered against the accused, he added.
On April 20, in a similar incident, miscreants had lobbed a petrol bomb attack on a jeweller's house in Dhuri, Sangrur. Police had arrested three persons four days after the incident....
