Pak-linked terror plot busted in Capital, 5 held
New Delhi, Sept. 12 -- The Delhi Police Special Cell arrested five suspects allegedly linked to a Pakistan-based terror module after simultaneous raids across six states, officials said Thursday.
The suspects were allegedly found with pistols, cartridges, harmful chemicals, and materials used for making IEDs, said a press note shared by police.
Investigators privy to the case details said the were planning to set up secret training facilities near Delhi with the ultimate aim of establishing a "caliphate" under the banner of a so-called "Gazwa-e-Hind".
"We had inputs that one of the key figures of the module. was attempting to buy weapons and chemicals from agro-chemical shops and online. Intensive surveillance was mounted and our teams followed his activities. Teams were deployed in Ranchi, Thane, Bengaluru, Nizamabad and Rajgarh to track suspects associated with this network," said Pramod Singh Kushwah, additional CP (Special Cell).
Team led by ACP Rahul Vikram tracked a man buying weapons and chemicals across Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Ranchi, and Rajgarh.
On Tuesday night, Aaftab Nasir Qureshi, 25, and Sufiyan Abubakar Khan, 20, were arrested near Nizamuddin station with two semi-automatic pistols and 15 live cartridges.
Simultaneous raids in other states led to the arrest of 23-year-old Ashhar Danish from a Ranchi lodge on Wednesday morning. A Bokaro resident and English honours graduate, Danish-whose father is a lawyer-was allegedly radicalised by a televangelist's lectures.
DCP Amit Kaushik said Danish ran multiple online groups to spread extremist views, posing as a professor, NGO worker, or executive to recruit members. In August 2025, he procured copper plates for cartridges and a pistol and bullet from Bokaro for arms research.
IED components and chemicals were seized from his rented room, and he admitted sourcing arms and explosives under instructions from a Pakistan-based handler for anti-national activities, Kushwah said.
Qureshi, a meat shop worker in Mumbai, was reportedly influenced online by radical leaders. He and his friend Khan allegedly travelled to Delhi to collect weapons from a Mewat-based supplier, the special cell said.
Another suspect, 20-year-old pharmacy student Mohammed Huzaif Yaman from Nizamabad, was arrested for aiding Danish in ammunition manufacturing, said Kushwah. Yaman's role was limited to arms production....
