Pair it right! Make gin your win game
India, June 14 -- If you are a gin aficionado, today is your day! As the alcohol variety gains more appreciation among consumers, brands are taking note as they come up with small batches of innovative flavours. With the Negroni, Martini and French 75 being popular in pop culture, it's no wonder that the Indian gin market is projected to reach $1,598 million by 2030, reads an Allied Market Research report.
While chakna is a mandatory pairing for stiff drinks such as scotch and whiskey, wine has cheese. Sake goes well with sushi, while a frothy beer is enjoyed with burgers. So, this begs the question: what the best pairing for the gin?
Vedant Newatia, Head Chef, Atelier V, Indore (Madhya Pradesh), believes in pairings that are "flavour-forward but accessible". A Gimlet is perfect with a burrito bowl as the lime-forward sharpness complements the earthiness of the beans and rice. "A Negroni with spaghetti and meatballs hits the spot and a Gin&Tonic with Eggs Kejriwal works beautifully," he tells us.
A plate of piping hot samosas or some creamy malai chicken with your gin? Well that's what Vikram Achanta, Founder Tulleeho, Bengaluru, and F&B Consultant Nikhil Merchant, recommend, respectively. Vikram adds, "An alternative would be pairing gin with a charcuterie board."
Anand Virmani, Co-founder, Nao Spirits, shares, "An interesting pairing I love is gin that has been sitting in the freezer. Serve it super chilled with good old aloo bhujia. It might sound unlikely, but it really works. You can also enjoy a plate of momos or dimsums with your gin cocktail."
On the other hand, Nikhil says, "I would also serve up a creamy aglio e olio, spicy stuffed olives or hard cheeses like pecorino for a cocktail hour at home."...
