India, Feb. 22 -- Beneath the rush of Chandigarh's traffic, an underpass has quietly transformed into a vibrant gallery, alive with colour, courage and the determined spirit of youngsters who refuse to be defined by limitation. 'Voices of Resilience', held by Chandigarh Lalit Kala Akademi, is more than an exhibition; it is a celebration of young artists with diverse abilities, who are expressing themselves in ways that words often cannot capture. Among them are those with speech and hearing impairments who let their canvases do the talking. One paints deftly with his feet. Another manoeuvres a wheelchair into position before lifting a brush with steady focus. One walks with support, pausing only to perfect a detail. Some cannot fully explain what they are painting - they simply know they love colours, and that love spills fearlessly onto canvas. Step inside, and the works pulse with emotion. The paintings and sculptures are not shaped by constraint but imagination and persistence. They remind visitors that art does not demand perfection of body or speech; it asks only for honesty. The journey began in 2023, when the Chandigarh Lalit Kala Akademi organised a solo exhibition for specially abled artist Abhishek Gupta. That effort planted a seed which has grown into this collective showcase. Timed with the Rose Festival, the exhibition has drawn crowds, sparked conversations and even led to sales, affirming the youngsters' talent and hard work.
