P'kula chemists' association protests against NCB
Panchkula, July 23 -- The District Chemists Association (DCAP), Panchkula, on Tuesday, staged a protest against the recent arrests of three medical wholesalers by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB). Following a protest near the Sector 7-8-17-18 roundabout for two hours, the city experienced significant traffic disruptions and widespread chemist shop closures. The association condemned the arrests as "illelagal" and "arbitary".
The wholesalers, arrested on July 9 under the NDPS Act, allegedly supplied controlled medicines to a retail shop in Pinjore, possessing only a partial drug licence.
However, the DCAP stated that neither the drug department nor the purchaser informed the suppliers of these license restrictions.
The association demanded immediate release of the wholesalers, who they claim have been in custody for two weeks without fair cause.
The NCB's action stems from a February 28 raid on the Pinjore pharmacy where restricted medicines were reportedly found, leading to the arrest of three city chemists....
