On Gurpurb, Mann calls for reopening of Kartarpur Corridor
Amritsar, Nov. 6 -- Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann paid obeisance at Golden Temple on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev, and prayed for the peace, progress and prosperity in the state, besides seeking reopening of the Kartarpur Corridor.
After paying obeisance with his wife, Gurpreet Kaur, the chief minister said, "With utmost devotion and respect, I bowed my head before the eternal Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji and prayed that every step taken by our government be dedicated to making Punjab the leading state of the country and ensuring the welfare of its people."
He stated the people of Punjab had entrusted his government with the great responsibility of serving the state, and he had bowed at this divine shrine to seek the Almighty's blessings for strength and guidance.
Mann said he felt deeply blessed after offering prayers here and that the visit had filled him with renewed zeal and dedication to continue serving the people of Punjab with missionary spirit.
When questioned about the reopening of the Kartarpur Corridor, the chief minister said keeping in view the sentiments of the devotees, the Union home ministry should immediately initiate the process of reopening the corridor.
Mann added that devotees from India returned within just four hours after visiting Kartarpur Sahib, hence there seemed no logical reason to keep the corridor closed, adding that since a jatha of devotees had already travelled to Nankana Sahib, Pakistan, to participate in the Parkash Purb celebrations at the birthplace of the first Guru, there should be no delay in reopening the corridor.
The corridor has remained shut since May 7, when the Indian armed forces launched Operation Sindoor targeting terror hideouts in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in response to the Pahalgam attack that claimed 26 lives on April 22. The 4.7-km passage connects Dera Baba Nanak Sahib in India's Gurdaspur and Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Pakistan's Kartarpur, believed to be the final resting place of Guru Nanak Dev....
