Odisha lecturer sentenced for life in parcel bomb blast case
Bhubaneshwar, May 29 -- A trial court in Bolangir district of Odisha sentenced an English lecturer, accused of orchestrating an explosion that claimed two lives in 2018, to life imprisonment on Wednesday with a penalty of Rs 50,000. Additional sessions judge Sonali Patnaik, while convicting the accused Punjilal Meher, described the crime as "heinous" and "premeditated".

While Jemamani died en route to the hospital, Soumya succumbed to injuries during treatment. Their Patnagarh home was left with cracked walls and shattered windows, Rabindra said. CID found during its investigation that Meher harboured resentment towards Sanjukta as she took over as the principal of Jyoti Vikash (Junior) College, Bhainsa in 2014, officials privy to the matter said. Meher held the post since 2009 and planned the attack after Sanjukta assumed the position, they added. Police said Meher orchestrated the attack, reportedly hoarded gunpowder from firecrackers, gift-wrapped the explosive, and attended Soumya's wedding and funeral....
