Observer reviews preps ahead of panchayatsamiti polls
Mohali, Dec. 13 -- Election observer Amrit Singh on Friday reviewed the district's preparations for polling and counting, directing officials to maintain complete transparency throughout the polling process ahead of panchayat samiti elections to be held on Sunday inKharar, Majri and Derabassi. People will cast their votes to elect members to 52 panchayat samiti zones.
Counting for Kharar and Majri will be conducted at Government Polytechnic College, Khoonimajra, while counting for Derabassi will take place at Government College, Derabassi. Fourteen tables will be set up at each centre.
Deputy commissioner-cum-district election officer Komal Mittal said 306 polling parties would be dispatched on Friday after completing their final round of training.
Additional district election officer Sonam Chaudhary said 2,12,848 voters are eligible to vote and all polling booths have been fitted with CCTV cameras.
SP (headquarters) Mohit Aggarwal said 57 booths have been declared sensitive, and additional police deployment will be made. Senior officers have been appointed as nodal officers, and patrolling teams will remain on continuous rounds to ensure law and order.
In view of the polling, the district administration has declared a Dry Day across Kharar, Majri and Derabassi from 12 am on December 14 to 10 am on December 15. Flying squads and excise teams will carry out continuous checks to enforce the ban on the sale and possession of liquor....
