Nuh's 'killer highway' to be redeveloped
Gurugram, July 26 -- In a major boost to road infrastructure in Haryana's Nuh district, the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has floated a Rs.325-crore tender to construct a 45-km-long four-lane national highway from Nuh to the Rajasthan border via Ferozepur Jhirka. The long-awaited project, part of NH-248A, fulfills a decades-old demand of local residents and activists.
Union minister Rao Inderjit Singh said the tender was issued on Friday and that the highway will be completed in two years.
"This highway will ease travel to Rajasthan and help reduce accidents on a stretch that has claimed hundreds of lives over the years. It's a long-awaited gift for the people of Nuh," he said.
The project will include nine flyovers, six underpasses and two major bypasses to reduce congestion in residential areas.
An additional 6.84 km of existing roads in Malab and Bhadas villages will also be strengthened.
The highway will be constructed under the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) mode with Rs.310.44 crore earmarked for construction.
The move comes after sustained efforts by Singh, who said he raised the issue repeatedly with Union minister Nitin Gadkari. "Even during the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway inauguration, I reiterated this demand," he said. The ministry has set a 24-month deadline for construction and a 60-month maintenance period....
