Noted musician Ustad Puran Shah Koti dies at 72
Jalandhar, Dec. 23 -- Noted musician and revered teacher Ustad Puran Shah Koti, 72, passed away on Monday after a prolonged illness in Jalandhar. Koti was a towering figure in the world of Punjabi music, having mentored several prominent artists including renowned Sufi singer Hans Raj Hans, Jasbir Jassi, Master Saleem and Sabarkoti.
Expressing grief over his demise, Hans Raj Hans said, "Ustaad Puran Shah Koti was more of a father figure to me, who helped me win accolades at music stages worldwide. Known for his simplicity, he dedicated his life to popularising Sufi music." He added, "Ustaad ji will be remembered for his immense contribution to Punjabi Sufi music and his deep understanding about life and culture."
