Non-bailable warrant against Sukhbir Badal
Chandigarh, Dec. 18 -- A local court has issued non-bailable warrant against Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal in connection with a defamation case filed in 2017. A copy of Wednesday's order was not immediately available.
On November 29, the local court was informed that the Punjab and Haryana high court had dismissed a petition filed by Sukhbir to quash the complaint. He was called for Wednesday's hearing but he didn't turn up, triggering the issuance of the non-bailable warrant. The next hearing is on January 9.
In 2020, Sukhbir had got bail after he surrendered in a Chandigarh court in connection with the case that was filed under Section 190 of the Code of Criminal Procedure by Rajinder Pal Singh, spokesperson of the Akhand Kirtani Jatha, in 2017.
He had stated in his plea that Sukhbir made "defamatory" remarks against him by associating him with terrorist outfit Babbar Khalsa International a day after then Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal visited his house in 2017....
