No MC files lost in recordroom fire: Bathinda mayor
BATHINDA, Feb. 25 -- Bathinda mayor Padamjeet Singh Mehta on Tuesday said that a scrutiny of official data has confirmed that the municipal corporation has not lost any file in the fire that was reported in the record room on January 30.
Addressing a press conference, Mehta said department heads have submitted reports confirming that files kept in the gutted room had digital records which are well-protected.
"Police are investigating the case, and we hope the truth behind the fire incident will emerge soon. Our detailed investigation confirmed that MC has a backup of each record from the room that caught fire due to unspecified reasons," he added.
The fire incident had led to speculation of foul play as the vigilance bureau is investigating a case of alleged irregularities in the purchase of fuel for the official vehicles. Also, large-scale construction activities on the public land were under the lens.
Suspecting sabotage, an FIR was lodged at the Kotwali police station on the complaint of MC's controller Lakhveer Singh on February 20 under Section 326 (F) (mischief by causing fire) of the BNS against unidentified persons....
