Chandigarh, Nov. 1 -- The Punjab and Haryana high court has restrained the Punjab Mandi Board from continuing with its construction activity in the gram panchayat, Mehmadpur, in Patiala, till the next date of hearing on January 21. The high court bench of justice Deepak Sibal and justice Lapita Banerji acted on a plea from the panchayat, which had approached the court stating that the panchayat had cancelled the resolutions, transferring the land in question on Patiala-Sangrur road to the Punjab Mandi Board. Further, the Punjab government has written to the board not to raise any construction on a piece of disputed land, still the board is continuing with the same. It was further submitted that land is within 1,000 yards of the existing ammunition dump, and despite that board is continuing with its construction activity.
