Nine of family charred in K'taka as car, bus catch fire after collision
BIDAR, April 18 -- Nine members of a family died in Karnataka's Yadgir district on Friday after a car collided head-on with a private bus and caught fire, police said.
According to police, the accident occurred near Shantapura Cross in Surpur taluk at around 9.45 am, adding that the collision was followed by a fire that engulfed both vehicles, leaving the car completely charred and killing nine people inside. However, a 10-year-old boy survived the crash.
Circle police inspector M Umesh said a private bus travelling from Bengaluru to Kalaburagi collided with a car moving from Yadgir towards Lingsugur in Raichur district. "Due to the intensity of the crash, the passengers in the car were unable to escape and were trapped in the fire, resulting in them being burned alive. Nine occupants of the car died on the spot. Around 25 to 30 passengers were on board the bus," he said. All the passengers managed to escape.
A complaint has been filed against the bus driver, police said, adding that he fled the scene.
The deceased were identified as Krishna Nayak (52) and his wife Anantha Kala (45); Sharanappa (36) and his wife Nisarga (30); their children Siddhartha (3), Advik (5), and Srinidhi (1.5); and Shashikala (30) and her son Chandan (8). Her other son, Virat (10), was the lone survivor of the crash. A case has been registered at Surpur police station under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS)....
