Chandigarh, Oct. 18 -- A Nigerian national has been arrested in Chandigarh for allegedly running a fake friendship fraud scam, police said. A case has been registered at cyber crime police station under Sections 318(4), 319(2), 338, 336(3), 340(2), and 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita against Ifeanyi Christian Ifesinachi, following a complaint by Akashdeep Singh, a resident of Chandigarh. According to the complaint, Akashdeep received a WhatsApp message from someone claiming to be a US citizen named Stanley. After developing an online friendship, Stanley falsely informed him that he had been detained at Mumbai airport and needed money for customs and taxes. Trusting him, Akashdeep transferred him Rs.6,08,960. Probe revealed that Ifesinachi posed as Stanley to defraud him. Four mobile phones containing 35 active Gmail accounts, 15 SIM cards, debit cards, bank passbooks, and an expired Nigerian passport were recovered from him, police said.htc...
