NCR fog effect: 6 flights cancelled
Mohali, Dec. 16 -- At least six flights were cancelled, and several faced delays at Shaheed Bhagat Singh International Airport in Mohali on Monday after dense fog enveloped the National Capital Region (NCR) and Dharamshala, the airport authorities said.
As per airport authorities, bad weather conditions resulted in cancellations of three arrival and three departure flights, while many were delayed throughout the day.
The cancelled departure flights included-Chandigarh to Dharamshala Indigo flight (6E7721) which was scheduled to depart at 2:50 pm, Indigo's Chandigarh to Delhi flight (6E760) scheduled for departure at 6 pm, and Air India flight to Delhi (AI 1879) scheduled for 10:05 pm.
The cancelled arrival flights were from IndiGo's flight from Dharamshala and Delhi, and Air India flight from Delhi.
At least 220 flights were cancelled across northern India due to low visibility, aviation industry executives said, with hundreds more flights delayed.
IndiGo said on 'X' that dense fog continued to affect visibility at Delhi and other airports in northern India, leading to delays and changes to flight schedules. "Prolonged low visibility during the morning hours has impacted air traffic movement, and as a result, some flights have been cancelled to ensure safe and compliant operations through the rest of the day," the airline said, adding that impacted customers were being informed in an advance.
Contrary to the India Meteorological Department's (IMD) prediction of dense fog at isolated places, the weather in Chandigarh remained largely clear on Monday, with no major visibility issues reported.
The city recorded a maximum temperature of 26.2 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 9.8 degrees Celsius on Monday. This was marginally higher than Sunday's maximum of 26, while the minimum temperature saw a noticeable rise from 7.7 degrees a day earlier. IMD officials said the absence of fog could be attributed to prevailing dry conditions and clear skies. IMD Director Surender Paul stated that temperatures are expected to fall gradually over the next few days as winter conditions strengthen. According to the IMD, the maximum temperature in Chandigarh is likely to decline to around 22-23 degrees Celsius in the coming days, while the minimum temperature is expected to remain relatively stable between 9 and 10 degrees Celsius.
The IMD has issued fog alert for Tuesday. Partly cloudy conditions may prevail in the coming days....
