Bengaluru, Feb. 8 -- The four members of a Bengaluru-based family who were found dead in a Bihar rest house on Friday allegedly died by suicide due to "guilt" over the murder of a teen relative, officers aware of the matter said on Saturday. The deceased - a 50-year-old man, his 78-year-old mother, and his two sisters aged 48 and 43 - had checked into the Digambar Jain Dharmshala in Rajgir town on January 31. According to police, the man had killed his 14-year-old nephew, the son of his 48-year-old sister, in August last year in Bengaluru Urban district following a confrontation over the boy's addiction to online gaming. The teenager had been living with his uncle for around eight months and frequently demanded money to play an app-based game, officers said, adding that he had allegedly assaulted the man when his demands were refused. "Preliminary investigation suggests that the family was unable to overcome the trauma and shame following the murder case. We booked the 50-year-old man, who was working as a security guard, on August 8 and sent him to judicial custody for murdering his nephew. He was released on bail in December," inspector V Raghu said. Before his arrest, the man had attempted suicide but survived and later surrendered before the police, officers added. According to investigators, the boy's murder caused the family severe emotional distress. "They were visiting temples across different states seeking relief from what they believed was the 'sin' of killing the boy," an officer said. The family members were last seen by the rest house staff on February 2 and had not ordered food since then. Their bodies were recovered on February 6 after rest house manager Mukesh Jain noticed a foul odour from the room and alerted the Nalanda police....
