Mohali, Dec. 28 -- Mohali police registered 20 FIRs and arrested 15 persons during a coordinated operation against illegal mining conducted across the district during the intervening night of December 26 and 27. Led by SSP Harmandeep Singh Hans, police teams carried out simultaneous raids in the areas under Sohana, Majri and Dera Bassi police stations. The operation targeted individuals allegedly involved in illegal mining activities. Police seized one JCB machine, 14 loaded tippers and two loaded tractor-trolleys used in the illegal extraction and transportation of mining material. The recovered material from dumping sites has been assessed by the geology and mining department for further legal action. Notices have also been issued to crusher owners and others suspected to be linked to the activity. The operation involved three SPs, four DSPs, seven SHOs and around 250 police personnel. SSP Hans said the district police would continue such operations against illegal mining.
