Mohali, Dec. 17 -- A Mohali court on Tuesday sentenced head constable Sukhwinder Singh to four years' rigorous imprisonment and imposed a Rs.20,000 fine after convicting him in a bribery case registered by the vigilance bureau. The court found Singh guilty of demanding a bribe of Rs.10,000 from a complainant in exchange for helping him secure bail. Acting on the complaint, the vigilance bureau laid a trap and caught Singh red-handed while accepting part of the bribe. A vigilance bureau spokesperson said the complainant approached the department after Singh demanded money to facilitate his bail. Following verification, a trap was organised, during which Singh accepted Rs.3,000 as part of the bribe, and his conversation with the complainant was recorded. The bureau recovered the bribe amount from Singh in the presence of official witnesses and arrested him on the spot. After completing the investigation, evidence was presented before the court, which, based on the material on record and witness testimonies, found the head constable guilty....
