Mohali ADC flags off awareness vans to sensitise farmers against stubble burning
Chandigarh, Sept. 27 -- With the festive season around the corner, the Chandigarh food safety and standards department has stepped up measures to curb adulteration in food products. The department has constituted four teams to conduct surveillance drives and collect samples of sweets, milk, and milk-based products, along with other commonly consumed food items. "We urge residents to remain cautious while purchasing food items. Milk and milk products, bakery goods, dry fruits, sweets, and savories should be bought only from licenced shops that maintain proper hygiene and use quality ingredients," a spokesperson said. As part of the ongoing Swachhotsav - Swachhata Hi Seva 2025 campaign, the Chandigarh MC on Friday organised a comprehensive health checkup camp for Safaimitras and their dependents under the banner of Safaimitra Suraksha Shivir. The camp was held at Rani Laxmi Bai Mahila Bhawan, Sector 38, and witnessed active participation from sanitation workers and their families. The Department of Economics, Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh, observed the 93rd birth anniversary of former Prime Minister and PU alumnus Dr Manmohan Singh in the seminar hall of Manmohan Singh Hall, Arts Block-3 on Friday. Alumni coordinator Mandeep Singh Gill introduced Dr Singh's life and achievements. A specially prepared documentary on Dr Singh was also screened, narrating his journey, tracing his formative years, academic excellence, and leadership in India's economic reforms. To spread awareness about stubble burning, the additional deputy commissioner (ADC) Sonam Chaudhary (rural development), flagged off awareness vans from the District Administrative Complex, Mohali on Friday. The ADC said that the vans are deployed for 40 days and will be instrumental in awakening the farmers about the need for paddy straw management. She added that paddy stubble is useful for the farmers and should not be burnt as crop residue can play an important role in enhancing the fertility of the soil if harvested in the field with the help of ultra-modern equipment. The ADC said that government has provided 1,540 crop residue management machines on subsidy in the district.htc...
