IMPHAL, May 1 -- Twenty-one MLAs from Manipur have submitted letters to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, requesting the immediate installation of a popular government in the state. The legislators also claim to have the support of the 10 Kuki-Zo MLAs from the state. The signatories comprise 14 BJP MLAs , three National People's Party (NPP) MLAs, two Naga People's Front (NPF) members, and two independents. The letter, which was sent on April 10 was received by the union home ministry and the Prime Minister's office on Tuesday. HT has seen copies of both the letters. Manipur has been in the throes of ethnic violence, between the Meiteis and the Kuki since May 2023, which has claimed at least 260 lives, displaced around 60,000 people.
