Mithoon opens up about becoming India's highest-paid composer
India, July 1 -- If buzz is to be believed, Mithoon has become the highest-paid composer in India. This comes after the composer-songwriter reportedly secured a staggering Rs.25 crore deal for an upcoming film with filmmaker Mohit Suri.
Despite the headlines, the composer, known for Bollywood love anthems like Bas Ek Pal and Tere Bin (both from Bas Ek Pal, 2006), and Tum Hi Ho (Aashiqui, 2013), wants to keep the focus on his art. "I won't comment on numbers. That's extremely personal. But I do believe in the value of music," he tells us. "Music has a large contribution to cinema, so every composer should get their due. My music is priceless; I just want other composers to value themselves and what they bring to a project," he adds.
As for this new project, Mohit's involvement was enough for Mithoon (40) to say yes. Their partnership goes all the way back to Zeher (2005) and the composer shares, "We started our careers together. I believe in Mohit's brand of cinema and he lets me establish my own brand of music." It's this approach that has led to some of his most moving compositions in the romance genre: "In a world of echoes, I have my own voice. Maybe that's why I'm called the love composer."
With over two decades in the industry, Mithoon has never relied on a formula for his work. "It comes from a place of truth," he says. The real secret to his music is not the numbers or the labels; it's more about a feeling. "When I hear a story, I react to it, and I try to capture that in the melody," he ends....
