Uttarkashi, Aug. 11 -- Nearly a week after devastating flash floods swept through parts of the Dharali and Harsil villages in Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand, authorities were still unsure about the exact number of missing people, given that many of those unaccounted for were people working in local homestays or orchards. A Dharali resident, requesting anonymity, said many workers did not have official identification or employment records, which has made the process of identifying them complicated. Authorities on Sunday said that nearly all of the stranded residents and pilgrims have been evacuated. Uttarkashi district magistrate Prashant Arya said on Sunday that the administration has begun a verification exercise to trace those unaccounted for. "Administration teams are interviewing every rescued person to help trace the missing people," the district magistrate told reporters in Uttarkashi. FULL REPORT ON P7...
