Srinagar, May 11 -- A militant of Islamic State Jammu and Kashmir (ISJK) - an IS inspired module- was killed in an encounter with security forces in Shopian district of the state on Friday, police officials said.

Ishfaq Ahmad Sofi alias Umar was killed in a brief exchange of fire with security forces at Ram Nagri area of Herpora, they said.

Incriminating materials, including arms and ammunition, recovered from the site where the encounter took place.

"Sofi was a member of ISJK," said south Kashmir's deputy inspector general (DIG) of police Atul Kumar Goel. "We can't say if he was the last member of the militant group," he said.
