Chandigarh, June 8 -- In a continued effort to remove illegal encroachments and reclaim public land, the Chandigarh municipal corporation (MC) on Saturday carried out a demolition drive to remove unauthorised hutments near Nirankari Bhawan on Mouli Link Road, Manimajra. Following the directions of municipal commissioner Amit Kumar, a joint team of the ciciv body's enforcement and engineering wings conducted the drive. During the operation, several unauthorised shanties located in Manimajra's Pocket Number 6 were dismantled. These encroachments had been causing obstruction in public movement and posed safety, hygiene, and infrastructure concerns in the area, said MC officials. The operation was carried out in the presence of senior MC officials. Adequate police arrangements were made to maintain public order during the drive. The municipal commissioner reiterated that the civic body will continue to take firm action against any illegal encroachments across the city. He emphasised that public land must be protected and utilised for planned development and public welfare.
