MBBS aspirants from humble background promised funds for fee
Patiala, Aug. 18 -- Punjab Rajya Sabha member Vikramjit Singh Sahney, on Sunday, announced that he would personally sponsor the candidates of humble background who were unable to pay their fees for the MBBS course.
HT, in its report on August 17, had highlighted the case of three students from a humble background who have qualified for the NEET-UG this year and secured the MBBS seats in government medical colleges, but are struggling to arrange fees for the course.
Sahney, taking cognizance of the HT story, "MBBS dreams hit fund crunch wall for students from humble backgrounds", has decided to adopt the students and sponsor their fees.
Sahney wrote on X: "More bright students from economically weak families in Punjab who secure admissions in medical colleges and are unable to pay their fees will be adopted by me for becoming doctors."
Sahney reiterated his commitment and said, "I will adopt these kids and take care of their medical education. All meritorious children from humble backgrounds will be supported so as to make them realise their dream of becoming doctors."
Currently, tuition fees in Punjab's government medical colleges are among the highest in region. While Himachal charges around Rs.3.19 lakh for the entire MBBS course and Haryana about Rs.4.5 lakh, Punjab's annual fees alone run significantly higher (Rs.10 lakh), making it unaffordable for many students. Along with Sahney, Abohar MLA Sandeep Jakhar said that he will help these meritorious kids....
