Panchkula, Dec. 19 -- The crime branch Sector-19 team of the Panchkula police apprehended a young man in possession of an illegal weapon near the Sector-15 market on Wednesday. He has been identified as Aman, a resident of Rajiv Colony in Sector 17. During a search, the police recovered a country-made pistol (desi katta) and two live cartridges from his possession. The investigation revealed that Aman is an active member of a snatching gang operating across the tricity area. He admitted to snatching a mobile phone and cash from a woman traveling in an auto-rickshaw in the Mani Majra area along with an accomplice. Furthermore, on December 4, the accused and his partner allegedly robbed a woman of her gold chain at knifepoint in Sector 7, Panchkula. Several other incidents of snatching in various parts of the tricity have also come to light during his interrogation. Beyond his involvement in local thefts, the police discovered that Aman has a serious criminal background. A case of attempted murder is currently registered against him in Uttar Pradesh.
