New Delhi, July 7 -- The National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested a resident of Handwara in Jammu and Kashmir and intensively interrogated him in connection with the funding of The Resistance Front (TRF) - seen as a proxy outfit of the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) - that is also involved in the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack which claimed 26 lives, people familiar with the development said on Sunday. Shafat Maqbool Wani, an officer said, was arrested last week under sections of Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) and questioned for six days from June 28 to July 3 by NIA's Jammu unit, which is also investigating the Pahalgam attack and had arrested two men from Pahalgam last month - Parvaiz Ahmad Jothar and Bashir Ahmad Jothar - who allegedly harboured the three Pakistani attackers and provided them with food and logistics. To be sure, Wani has been arrested in a separate larger conspiracy probe pertaining to TRF in Kashmir and it is not known if he knows anything about the funding of Pahalgam attackers. It is suspected that Wani was receiving funds from The Resistance Front leaders from across the border, which he used to promote terrorist activities in India, the officials further said. Union home ministry has said that there was a "need to unearth the larger conspiracy" as such funding of the Pakistan-based TRF "has grave national and international ramifications"....
