Man held for duping Panipat resident by posing as cop
Panchkula, April 2 -- The anti-immigration fraud unit of Panchkula police have arrested a man, along with his brother, for allegedly impersonating a Haryana deputy superintendent of police (DSP) and duping a man of lakhs of rupees on the pretext of arranging a government tender.
The accused has been identified as Vipul Goyal while his brother is Tarun Goyal. Police have also recovered part of the defrauded amount and a fake DSP uniform used in the crime.
According to police, a complaint was received from Yogesh, a resident of Panipat. As per the complaint, in 2014, Tarun introduced his brother Vipul to Yogesh, claiming that Vipul had secured the post of DSP. To gain trust, Vipul frequently met the victim wearing a police uniform.

Trusting them, the victim handed them Rs.15 lakh cash in February 2017 at Sector-6, Panchkula. Subsequently, the accused allegedly extorted a total of Rs.35 lakh through multiple bank transactions and cash payments.
The victim stated that when the promised tender did not materialise between 2017 and 2022, he repeatedly asked for his money back, but the accused kept delaying. The victim later discovered that Vipul Goyal was not a police officer.
Based on the complaint, a case was registered at Sector-7 police station on September 11, 2025. Both accused were arrested on March 28 and produced in court the next day, where a three-day police remand was granted.
