Srinagar/Jammu, June 13 -- Leader of Opposition in J&K assembly Sunil Sharma on Thursday called on lieutenant governor Manoj Sinha at Srinagar and sought the latter's intervention into the issue of Urdu knowledge being made mandatory for naib tehsildar recruitment. He requested the LG to make the working knowledge of Urdu non-mandatory for the examination. He was accompanied by J&K BJP president Sat Sharma. Sharma highlighted that making working knowledge of any language mandatory, given that J&K has five official languages, violates the constitutional principles of equal opportunity and administrative impartiality, creates an unfair barrier, and is a disadvantage for aspirants from the Jammu division.
