Local ace Himal wins railway chess c'ship
Chandigarh, Aug. 28 -- Local ace chess player Himal Gusain grabbed top honours by winning the 37th All India Railway Individual Championship 2025, representing Western Railway team. Himal won the tournament scoring an unbeaten 6/7. He finished a half point ahead of the field.
GM Shyaam Nikhil P (Integral Coach factory, Chennai), GM Mitrabha Guha (Metro Railway, Kolkata) and IM Aronyak Ghosh (Eastern Railway) secured 2nd, 3rd and 4th position, respectively. They scored 5.5/7 points each and their positions were decided on the basis of tie-breaks. Himal, the top rated and only International Master from Chandigarh, has already qualified for FIDE World Chess Cup 2025 to be held in India from October 30 to November 27, 2025.
And with this win, he has also qualified for World Railway Championship 2025 to be held in Quiberon, France from October 6 to 10. The event was organised by Eastern Railway Sports Association at Eastern Railway Sports Complex in Kolkata, West Bengal from August 22 to 25....
