Chandigarh, Dec. 8 -- Panic gripped the Azad Market in Sector 20 late on Saturday night after a major fire erupted inside a commercial shop, sending thick smoke billowing into the sky and triggering chaos among shopkeepers and local residents. According to eyewitnesses, the fire broke out around 11:30 pm, rapidly spreading across temporary structures and stacked goods inside the market. Fire brigade teams from Sector 32 fire station and Manimajra were immediately dispatched to the spot. Multiple fire tenders were deployed, and firefighters battled the blaze for several hours before bringing the situation under control. "The fire spread very quickly due to inflammable material stored in the shops. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported so far," said a fire department official at the site.
