Karnal, Jan. 10 -- The Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (UHBVN), Kurukshetra, has topped the state's solar energy rankings by installing 3,807 rooftop solar plants. Out of 5,631 applications, the district achieved 81.4% of its current target, with plans to reach 4,677 installations by March. Deputy commissioner Vishram Kumar Meena credited a systematic rollout by the power department for the scheme's success in reaching local households. Under the financial structure, the Centre provides subsidies of Rs.30,000 for 1 kilowatt, Rs.60,000 for 2 kilowatts, and Rs.78,000 for 3 kilowatts. To further assist low-income residents, the Haryana government provides an additional subsidy of Rs.25,000 for 1-kilowatt systems and Rs.50,000 for 2-kilowatt systems for families earning less than Rs.1.8 lakh annually. This brings the total potential benefit to Rs.1.1 lakh a household. Beyond the initial savings, the initiative provides up to 300 units of free monthly electricity and the opportunity to earn revenue by selling surplus power back to the grid.
