India, June 28 -- The American cop comedy Brooklyn Nine-Nine, known for its cult following and starring Andy Samberg, the late Andre Braugher, and Chelsea Peretti, is getting an Indian adaptation. While reports have suggested that actor Kunal Kemmu has been approached to play the desi version of Andy's character Jake Peralta, a source close to the project has dismissed the claim as "a complete rumour." They add, "His name has been discussed due to his impeccable comic timing. But he has not been a part of those discussions yet, and nothing has been taken to him. The casting is still a few months away." According to the source, a pilot episode has been written with characters re-imagined for the Indian context, but the project is still in its nascent stages. The source adds, "The writers have written a pilot episode and fleshed out the characters as per the Indian setting, but it's all a little early. Although, if all things go well, the show might hit the screens after a year." There's also speculation that Rishab Seth - who has directed the Yami Gautam-led comedy Dhoom Dhaam and the recently released series Mistry - may lead the adaptation, though nothing has been confirmed. The makers are also currently in search of an OTT platform to back the show....
