K'taka councillors study UT's civic governance
Chandigarh, Nov. 30 -- A delegation comprising 31 councillors and four senior officers from thecity municipal council of Channapatna, Karnataka, visitedthe Chandigarh municipal corporation on Saturday as part of an inter-city knowledge exchange initiative aimed at understanding innovative municipal governance and civic service models.
The delegation was warmly welcomed by senior officials of the Chandigarh municipal corporation , who provided a comprehensive overview of the corporation's structure, functioning, and citizen-centric service delivery mechanisms. The officials coordinated the entire exposure visit and facilitated interactive sessions, presentations, and on-site observations.
As part of the field study, the Channapatna team visited several key municipal facilities, including material recovery facility (MRF), garbage processing unit, C&D waste processing plant and city dumping ground.
At each site, MCC officials explained in detail the operational processes, modern sanitation practices, waste segregation and recycling mechanisms, public health infrastructure, and administrative strategies that contribute to Chandigarh's efficient urban management.
The visiting councillors and officers expressed deep appreciation for MCC's structured systems, operational efficiency, and strong citizen-oriented approach. They highlighted their interest in replicating several of Chandigarh's successful models to further strengthen municipal governance in Channapatna.
The Chandigarh municipal corporation conveyed gratitude to the delegation for choosing the city as a model for learning and reaffirmed its commitment to continued collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and mutual support between the two urban local bodies....
