Meerut, June 20 -- A army jawan was arrested in Meerut district of Uttar Pradesh for allegedly possessing 70 cartridges of an AK-47 rifle that he was trying to sell to a friend, the Uttar Pradesh ATS said on Thursday. The jawan, identified as Rahul Kumar from Nagli Azad village of the district, is currently posted with the counter-terrorism battalion at the Mechanised Infantry Centre and School in Ahmednagar, Maharashtra. According to the ATS, authorities received a tip-off about a man travelling in a car with illegal cartridges.
