Jakhar questions CM Mann over drug, corruption menace in state
Ludhiana, June 14 -- Punjab BJP president Sunil Jakhar launched a scathing attack on the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government, accusing chief minister Bhagwant Mann of failing to deliver on his promises to fight corruption and drug abuse in the state.
Speaking at a press conference alongside Union minister Ravneet Singh Bittu and BJP Ludhiana West by-election candidate Jiwan Gupta, Jakhar questioned the CM's commitment to eradicating corruption, stating that despite repeated claims, no significant action had been taken on the ground.
"You said in the assembly that you have files on corrupt politicians. If you have them, why are you silent? Have you compromised with the guilty or is there something else stopping you from taking action?" Jakhar said.
Jakhar further accused the AAP government of turning into "commission agents" for real estate lobbies, betraying the trust of the people by failing to act on corruption despite repeated assurances.
"Why are only tehsildars being targeted? Start with your own MLAs. Check the properties of those who once held humble jobs and are now building lavish villas on prime lands. Where did the money come from?" Jakhar demanded.
The BJP leader also alleged that the AAP government was involved in a conspiracy to seize over 25,000 acres of prime agricultural land in Ludhiana bycolluding with real estatedevelopers.
"The state government is acting like a land aggregator, and both CM Bhagwant Mann and AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal are facilitating this nexus. Innocent farmers are being cheated," Jakhar alleged.
Jakhar urged the people of Ludhiana to vote against this "nefarious agenda" in the upcoming by-elections on June 19. He assured the public that the BJP would not allow such land grabs to succeed.
Turning his attention to the ongoing drug crisis, Jakhar criticised the lack of tangible results in the battle against drug trafficking. "The CM and DGP keep promising a drug-free Punjab, but the ground reality hasn't changed. The drug trade continues to flourish, and the money trail possibly leads topoliticians," he said.
In response to Jakhar's allegations, AAP spokesperson Neel Garg hit back, questioning Jakhar's credibility.
He pointed out that when Jakhar was in the Congress, then CM Captain Amarinder Singh had claimed to have evidence against several Congress MLAs and ministers but Jakhar had remained silent.
Garg emphasised that AAP has a "zero-tolerance policy" on corruption, with action already taken against their own MLAs and senior officials.
Regarding the land pooling policy, Garg clarified that the initiative would benefit farmers by eliminating the land mafia, who previously purchased agricultural land at low prices and resold it at much higher rates....
