IVF revolution: Safer, smarter and more successful than ever
India, July 25 -- Since the birth of first in vitro fertilization (IVF) baby about 47 years ago, millions of couples have enjoyed the joy of parenthood through this technique. The success rates have improved up to nearly 50% per cycle and with better and safer stimulation protocols, clinics now boast of secure and more effective IVF.
In 1992, intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) technique almost conquered male infertility. Highly successful freezing techniques have made it possible to complete one's family with 'one and done' approach - two pregnancies with one oocyte harvest, allowing individuals to plan their families at a more suitable time and offering new hope to cancer patients.
IVF has become a very potent technique for the prevention of genetic diseases. The transfer of healthy disease-free embryos results in a healthy pregnancy, thus preventing a lifelong misery for the families affected with genetic diseases. IVF is a fast-developing field with AI coming in to help in the better selection of gametes and embryos.
