new Delhi, Aug. 25 -- Dream11 has initiated talks with the Indian cricket board to pull out as shirt sponsors ahead of the T20 Asia Cup, according to people in the know of the issue. This could mean the India team playing in the tournament in the UAE without a jersey sponsor. The development follows the govt's Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill coming into effect, leading to the clampdown on Real Money Gaming (RMG) and forcing Dream11 to shut down its cash games. Dream11 is the primary revenue stream for its parent company Dream Sports and its three-year jersey contract with the Indian cricket team worth Rs.358 crore is now under the cloud. India have faced such a situation in the past too. They played in the 2023 World Test Championship final in England without a sponsor's name on their shirts. When the law which outlawed online betting and gambling activities was being passed, BCCI secretary, Devajit Saikia had told HT: "BCCI will have to follow the law of the land". "The legal position is that there will be a notification on which date the Act will come into force. If it happens before the Asia Cup, we will have to take the next course of action," he had said. The BCCI is likely to float a tender inviting new bidders. But with the Asia Cup getting underway on September 9, finding another sponsor on such short notice may not prove easy....
