India mustn't let guard down: Capt Bana Singh
Jammu, May 8 -- Captain Bana Singh (retd), one of the three living Param Vir Chakra winners, on Wednesday, said India must remain alert and fully prepared for Pakistan's retaliation to New Delhi's midnight precision strikes on nine terror camps inside Pakistan and PoK.
"A rogue country, which has raised and nurtured terrorists and which is bereft of any rationale thinking can retaliate and we must remain prepared," he said.
Captain Bana Singh, 77, hails from Kadyal village in RS Pura sector of Jammu district.
In 1987, he had led the team that recaptured the Quaid post, a strategically important location on the Siachen Glacier, from Pakistan during Operation Rajiv. The post was thereafter renamed Bana post. However, Singh said war brought destruction and ruined everything.
Retired defence officers lauded the strikes at terror camps in Pakistan, calling it the "most apt" response to Pahalgam attack.
Former Vice Chief of Indian Army Lt General Vijay Oberoi, who lost his right leg in the 1965 Indo-Pak war, said the strikes will go a long way in establishing India as a strong power. "Our country has suffered terror attacks and earlier, we used to be persuaded by the US and Western powers to exercise restraint. This was neither good for the nation nor for the armed forces," he said.
Sunil Lanba, former chief of naval staff, said the government had taken the right action. "By striking Pakistan, they have set the precedent that if they indulge in terrorism, our response is loud and clear," he said.HTC...
